Government support
Volunteering in Victoria is supported through different state, federal and local government policies, programs and services.
You can also visit our Key community sector organisations page for sector-specific support and information, such as sport, health, arts and culture.
Victorian Government
Department of Human Services - Funded Agency Channel
The Channel is primarily a business and communication tool for organisations that receive DHS funding. But it also has a good range of information for community organisations including news, grants and funding, events, service data and business management resources.
Department of Planning and Community Development
This easy to use chart lists all grants available through the Department and indicates their current status.
NFP Compliance Support Centre
A single entry point for all regulatory information, licenses, forms and related support materials to help reduce the regulatory burden for community sector organisations.
Office for the Community Sector
The Office for the Community Sector (OCS) supports not-for-profit organisations with policies and initiatives to help reduce red-tape and build skills, knowledge and capacity in community organisations. It has also developed practical tools like the Victorian Standard Chart of Accounts and Workforce Capability Framework to help community groups to run their organisations.
Federal Government
Office for the Not-for-Profit Sector
The Office for the Not-for-Profit Sector was established in October 2010 to drive and coordinate the not-for-profit sector policy reform agenda. They are responsible for the development of a National Volunteer Strategy.
Local Government
Local Government Councils
There is strong support for volunteering at a local government level and many local councils manage thousands of volunteers through their community services and programs. Contact your local council to find out about specific volunteer programs and services in your area.
