Volunteering case study transcript (English)
Hello. My name is Biniam. I worked as a volunteer with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees
How did you get involved in volunteering?
When I arrived in Australia I was using my time but I noticed that I needed work experience in this country. For this reason I was looking for a job on the volunteers website on the internet. Then I found one with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. I did this volunteer work for one year.
What did you do in your role as a volunteer?
It was office work. Very easy. For instance, I was helping with writing letters, communications and organising files.
Did you need any specific skills to do this role?
No. This work did no need any experience or special talent. But it needed enthusiasm in work.
What the best thing about volunteering?
First you get local experience. Second you expand your opportunities for future jobs and third you feel happy because you know that you are volunteering for the community.
