Trees for a lifetime
Tree planting hadn't ever been a high priority for Cameron Paine and Justine Clear. But after a death in the family, they joined Tobin Brothers' Tribute Tree program to restore forest in the Upper Yarra Reservoir Park in Melbourne's outer east.
'It was great to do an outdoor activity with friends and family - and something that was nurturing at the same time,' says Cameron. 'We were amazed at how many people turned out to plant trees. Even though we didn't know anyone except our immediate group, it felt like we all shared a common project with everyone who participated. It was a lovely experience...and we planted hundreds of trees.'
Cameron, Justine and their family were part of the first Tribute Tree program which Tobin Brothers has been running for over 10 years now.
'We still go back every year to check the trees and have seen the forest literally grow around us,' says Cameron. 'It's a really beautiful place with a special meaning for us and it feels good to know that we have contributed to that.'
The Tribute Trees program has been developed in conjunction with Greening Australia and Parks Victoria. Planting days are held twice a year and are free for volunteers to attend.
