Thomas Banks - inspiration
Thomas Banks has been actively involved in volunteering for over three years, so far having given his time to more than nine different organisations.
From ushering people into theatre events to working outdoors with Conservation Volunteers Australia, Tom has put his diverse range of skills to good use and doesn't let his mild cerebral palsy deter him from doing anything.
For me, the most rewarding part of volunteering is being able to give something back to the community and to help strengthen festivals
.
Helping out at the Melbourne Writers' Festival in 2008 has been Tom's favourite experience so far as he had attended the 2007 festival and was thrilled to be involved the following year.
The next volunteering opportunity I would like to be involved in would be to support the Emerging Writers' Festival, it's a great organisation
.
Tom's tip for finding volunteer opportunities is to apply for everything you're interested in and then try to fit what you can into your schedule
