Volunteering case study transcript (English)

My name is Guna Majhi. I am working as a volunteer at the Multicultural Hub.

How did you get involved in your volunteering role?

The reason I joined this organisation is because one of my friends helped and made it easier for me to join.

What do you do? What does your role involve?

Mainly I would like to assist the receptionist as much as I can. I setup the place before the meetings start.

Do you need any specific skills or knowledge to do your role?

You don’t really need much ability but if you have a desire and willingness to do the job then it will happen.

What is the most challenging thing about your volunteering role?

Firstly I am happy that I get to interact with people from various linguistic backgrounds. I like helping out the receptionist because it could help me improve my English skills.

Another thing is that people are satisfied with the services I have provided.

What have you got out of your involvement in volunteering?

Firstly, I learnt a lot about the Australian way of working. I also made connections with people that could help me with my future career.

Do you have any advice to people who are new to volunteering?

Those who are new to social work, who are eager and willing, they are always welcomed by the multicultural hub. It’s only when we start working as a volunteer there are more chances of getting a better job in future.
